Our Mission

The mission of Springs of Love is to raise up more Catholic foster and adoptive families and to support those touched by fostering and adoption through educational programming, small groups, and parish care teams.

Our Story

Greg and Kimberly met while studying at the JPII Institute for Studies on Marriage & Family and were married soon after. After several years of struggling with infertility, they became foster parents in the hopes of adopting. They were blessed to be able to foster, then adopt Anthony. While he was still a baby, they were overjoyed to have the opportunity to adopt twin girls, Zailie & Gabriella, who were just 5 months younger than Anthony. When the “triplets” were 4, John Paul burst onto the scene.

The Henkel family wants to encourage other Catholics to consider fostering and adopting as a way to build their families, care for the children in need of a family, and be a gift to the birthparents unable to care for their children. They consider Springs of Love as a family mission to spread the joy (and, let’s be honest here, the very real struggles) of fostering and adopting, so that others might also open their hearts to love a child who needs them.

Our Founder

Dr. Kimberly Henkel is the Founder and Executive Director of Springs of Love, a ministry to encourage, educate and equip Catholics to discern and live out the call to foster and adopt. She is also Co-Founder of Springs in the Desert, a sister ministry to Springs of Love, that is dedicated to spiritually and emotionally accompanying those struggling with infertility and loss.

Kimberly holds a PhD in Moral Theology/Ethics, with a focus in Bioethics, from the Catholic University of America where she was awarded a full John Quasten Scholarship and Hubbard Dissertation Fellowship. She was the former Executive Vice-President of the National Pro-Life Action Center on Capitol Hill and has appeared on EWTN’s Women of Grace & At Home With Jim & Joy tv shows, Catholic Answers Live, The Catholic Doctor’s Radio Show, CFN Live, Fox News, C-SPAN, and CNN and has been published in The Linacre Quarterly, The National Catholic Register, The Catholic Times, Focus on the Family and Humanum.

Kimberly is the Executive Producer of the Springs of Love Foster & Adoption Video Stories, which received four awards by the Catholic Media Association in 2024, and are featured on EWTN On-Demand and FORMED. She studied bioethics in Rome at the Regina Apostolorum and earned a Master of Theological Studies degree from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage & Family.

In 2024, Kimberly was named one of OSV News’ 10 Catholics of the Year, alongside Cardinal Seán O’Malley, legendary actor Bob Newhart, WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark, and others. She was selected for her work in raising awareness of foster care as a pro-life issue.

Kimberly and her husband of 16 years, Greg, have fostered and are adoptive parents to four young children in rural Ohio.

Springs in the Desert

Many couples start to consider foster and adoption after struggling with infertility.

The cross of infertility can be an especially hard one for couples to bear, as they long to become co-creators with God and receive the blessing of children in their home. This cross, carried day after day, month after month, and year after year—often in silence—can put them to the test as they strive to discover how God is calling them to live out their unique call to fruitfulness in every moment.

By acknowledging the grief and pain of infertility, our sister site, Springs in the Desert, offers a place of respite and solidarity where couples can know God’s love for them and discover His unique call to fruitfulness. Springs in the Desert forms a community with unique offerings for women, men and couples, meeting them wherever they are on the path of infertility. Through these encounters, they make space for deeper renewal in each person’s relationships with themselves, their spouses, and God.
